Aeros take off
into 2020
by Shaylyn Thornton
Coming off of an incredibly strong first
half of the season, including being
undefeated at home, the Aeros started 2020
with a weekend trip out of town.
An originally planned home game on
January 12 was cancelled due to the
extreme cold, so the three away games from
January 17-19 were the Aeros' first chance
to take on the new year.
The first game was against the Meadow
Lake Mustangs on January 17, and although
the first period remained scoreless, Edson
recorded four goals in the second and
another six in the third.
The game ended with an impressive 10-
0 score in favor of the Aeros, and Dmitry
Dyskin received Player of the Game for his
two assists.

On the 18 , the team travelled to Cold
Lake to battle the Hornets in their first
match up of 2020. The Aeros started off the
game strong immediately, with six goals in
the first – two of them even being
shorthanded goals thanks to Mathew The Holy Redeemer Junior B Boys basketball played in a local tournament on January 18th. The team

bringing the final tally to 15-1 in favor of
the Aeros. The team outshot the Hornets 54-

Sebastian Heden earned himself Player
of the Game with three hat tricks and three
assists. Heden also proudly broke a Western
States Hockey League record in this game –
becoming the fastest player to reach 200
career points, managing to do it in only 58
games.
On January 19, the Aeros faced off
against the Meadow Lake Mustangs once
again. The Aeros found themselves in an
unusual position after the first period,
trailing 3-1.
In the second, each team scored another
two goals, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor
of the Mustangs.
As the Aeros entered the third, they
knew they needed to play hard to bring
home the win. Both teams fought hard, but
the Aeros earned five goals in the frame
while the Mustangs only scored one.
This brought the Aeros their third win in
a row, with a score of 8-6. Jarius Moar was
awarded Player of the Game for his two
goals during the game.
The next two Aeros home games are
January 24 at 8:15pm and January 26 at
3:15pm, both against the Barrhead
Bombers.
The Aeros are also participating in a fun
Edson Youth Interagency event on January
31. The event partners with the Edson Boys
& Girls Club and invites youth ages 11-17
out to Griffiths Park Outdoor Rink for a
free skate with the Aeros.
Snacks and beverages will be provided
and helmets are mandatory, though there The Holy Redeemer Junior C Boys basketball saw action on January 18th. "Lots of great things are
may be some available through the Boys & happening with this young team," says HRH Athletics Director Julie Rothwell. "They are learning the
game very quickly and we look forward to seeing what they can do as the season progresses.”
Girls Club if needed.
